Light Feelings
(2024)
Light Feelings is a visual poem dedicated to Finland, where my perception of light and color as a photographer was reshaped forever. Through one blurred photograph each month, I capture the shared anticipation felt by both Finns and expats as they await the return of light after months of darkness. Each image reflects the gradual shift from monochrome to the vibrant, almost overwhelming energy of spring—a fleeting season where the light stretches 24/7 around the summer solstice before returning to darkness again. This contrast between obscurity and radiance, between monochrome stillness and overwhelming color, has taught me to see, appreciate, and feel light with my whole body, not just with my eyes.
For me, emerging from the Nordic winter feels like surfacing from underground—adjusting to a brightness almost too intense to bear. Light Feelings is an invitation to experience light not just as a visual element, but as a sensory, emotional force that shapes how we feel and connect with the world. This photo series is not an exploration of nature’s transitions like Weather Details project but a reflection on how deeply our environments shape our senses, emotions, and ways of feeling the world.
